Setting Goals to Achieve Lasting Results
Have you ever set a goal and even with all the effort you put in you don’t seem to get the results you want.
Have you ever wanted something so bad and then after getting it realise that there is no need for it?
Understanding the difference between needs and wants can give you greater understanding to why goals need different approaches to be reached.
Goals can mean the difference between success and failure. Realistic, well-planned goals keep you focused and motivated. They provide a plan for change as you transition to a healthier lifestyle.
But not all goals are helpful. Unrealistic and overly aggressive goals can undermine your efforts leaving you feeling flat and unsuccessful.
For example a goal for weight loss can focus on outcomes of the process. An outcome goal is focussing on what you hope to achieve in the end and this might be to lose a certain amount of weight. While this goal may give you a target, it doesn't address how you will reach it.
A process goal is a necessary step to achieving a desired outcome. For example, a process goal for weight loss might be eating the proper amounts of nutrients, adding exercise to your routine and drinking more water. Process goals may be particularly helpful for weight loss because you focus on changing behaviors and habits that are necessary for losing weight.
Both areas of goal setting are valid and focus and determination are both needed. When looking at health we realise that maybe a goal of Wanting to lose weight might be more successful when understanding the need to address a pattern or conditioning that has stopped this goal from happening in the past.
It has usually taken many people years to develop their current health picture, therefore to actually address the underlying cause it can take time.
Setting goals is fantastic ….. Let’s put in place the right steps to achieve these goals successfully
